Kids Class Information

At what age can children start Ju Jitsu?

"We welcome children from the age of 4 upwards.

For our youngest students, we focus on fun, fitness, balance, and coordination, while slowly introducing basic techniques. As they get older, we add more structure, responsibility, and personal development into their training.

Ju Jitsu is fantastic for growing confidence, teaching discipline, and helping kids learn how to focus — all while having fun and staying active.

How does Ju Jitsu help kids with focus, confidence, and discipline?

Ju Jitsu gives children a safe and structured environment where they learn to follow instructions, stay on task, and see the rewards of effort and consistency.

Every new technique they learn, every stripe or tag they earn, builds their confidence and self-belief. Discipline is gently encouraged through repetition, routine, and mutual respect.

Parents often tell us they’ve seen big improvements in behaviour at home and school after just a few weeks of training.

Is Ju Jitsu Safe for Children?

Yes — safety is our top priority. All our instructors are experienced, DBS-checked, and trained to work with children.

We teach techniques in a controlled environment with an emphasis on body awareness and care for training partners.

Kids are taught how to fall safely, how to respect others, and how to train with control — not aggression.

Classes are structured to match the child’s age and ability, ensuring they stay safe while they learn. We do encourage parents to be a part of this journey, it certainly helps when we are teaching the values that you are encouraging at home.

What should my child wear to their first class?

For their first class, comfortable clothes like joggers and a t-shirt are fine.

We’ll provide all the guidance you need after that — and uniforms are available to purchase once your child is ready to join properly.

Uniforms for kids are just £25, and they come with a belt to get them started.

Do I need to stay and watch while my child trains?

"Parents are welcome to stay and watch, especially in the early weeks.

We find that younger children benefit from having their parent nearby, while older kids often grow more independent by training on their own.

There’s a comfortable viewing area if you’d like to watch, and we’re always happy to chat before or after class.
